Motivational Moment: Kaizen – Small Steps Toward Big Change

I was thinking about change one day and how challenging making a change in just about anything can be.  But, my focus here is on changes that you might be considering relative to your health and fitness, nutritional and lifestyle habits.   Changes that you are ready to make and want to make.

For some, changing habits is hard.  Really hard.  Most of us start to make a change and then give up.  Think New Years Resolutions.

I recently read a book called One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way by Dr. Robert Maurer.

It describes the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen.

Dictionary.com defines Kaizen as:

noun
1. a business philosophy or system that is based on making positive changes on a regular basis, as to improve productivity.
2. an approach to one’s personal or social life that focuses on continuous improvement.

(definition from dictionary.com)

It is a word of Japanese origin.

Kaizen

Maurer describes how one small change, can lead to another change and another, until you have trained your brain to continuously make the changes you desire.  This could be to change your diet to eat more healthy foods or to make time to exercise.

I recommend visiting the library or purchasing this book as it is an easy read.

You can get an idea of what Dr. Maurer talks about in the book by watching this interview with him.  It is about 25 mins long divided in 3 parts.  It is a very refreshing way of approaching self-improvement, corporate improvement, and building and improving relationships!
