Personal trainers in many of the commercial gyms will basically escort you through the machines and some may even make you do some weird exercises that could hurt you but look cool to other gym members. Don't get me wrong, any safe exercise is good exercise, but if you want to make progress, grow stronger, look and feel better, you need to have variety and you must enjoy what you are doing.
The bottom line is an exercise program is one vehicle on the road to healthy lifestyle changes.
